A Message From The Owner

From the beginning as a child growing up in South Philly; I was always interested in seeing homes being constructed and sidewalks / streets being laid out.  When I was 7 years old, I moved with my parents right over the bridge to Deptford, NJ. That’s where it all began.  I would lie on the floor and draw houses with streets and walkways as if I was designing a small city.  When I was in middle school, I started cutting grass for people that lived in my development.  My mother would drive me around after she was done work in her SUV and we would cut about 2 houses every other night.  When I stated high school, I had about 10 lawns and I began to grow to accommodate customers with a variety of services such as landscaping, drainage, pavers, & concrete.

 I never liked turning down work and with every different job my customers asked me to do; the more I learned.   Through careful research and always asking questions to people who were more qualified than I was I certainly learned a lot.  I started taking classes after school when I wasn’t working and on weekends to learn more about plants and pavers.  I quickly learned that my passion in life was working with my hands as well as always communicating with the customer to truly understand their wants and needs in an effort to turn their dreams and visions into reality.  It gave me such a sense of accomplishment seeing the transformations and the value added to each of my clients’ properties. Seeing my customer’s happy faces when the job was complete was also a great feeling as well.  It felt good knowing that people trusted me with their money and I always provided a top-quality service at an honest & affordable price.  My clients quickly realized I had their better interest in mind and therefore would ask me to do more and more work as well as refer family & friends.  The sky was the limit and I was always intrigued to learn something new.  Isn’t that what we all look for in a contractor anyway?  Someone who understands us and can communicate throughout the entire process of the job so there are no surprises.  What really stands out is when a contractor can give us the best of both worlds and offer a top-quality service at an affordable price and most of all; stand behind their work!   I learned this early on in life and I can honestly say this is the foundation of my company and everything we do.  We strive to be different and stand out from the rest.

In “2007” when I graduated high school I had over 65 lawn accounts / properties we maintained.  During that year I created Grasso’s Landscape Service, LLC t/a Grasso Concrete, LLC and haven’t looked back since!  Upon graduating high school, I decided to further my career and attended college to obtain a degree in landscape design & horticulture.  I received my ICPI (Interlocking Concrete Paver) Certification as well as SRW (Segmental Retaining Wall Certification) and I took classes to become NCMA (National Concrete & Masonry) Certified.  I also received proper certification for Landscape Lighting & Drainage Solutions.  “Our main specialty has always been concrete & pavers”.    I absolutely loved working with plants and creating landscape designs and outdoor living spaces; most of which include boulders and elements of landscape lighting.   In “2015” after growing to accommodate 223 lawn & maintenance accounts I had to make the difficult decision to sell all of my lawn/maintenance accounts.  This decision was made in an effort to grow to accommodate customers on a larger scale with a more streamlined area of services.  Concrete was and still is our bread and butter and we can take care of far more concrete customers now than we ever could before.   During that same year after having sold my lawn accounts, I became a full-time Union Cement Mason in my hometown; Philadelphia.  Knowledge is power and the possibilities are endless.  I set out to learn as much as I could and met a lot of great connections along the way.   I was not only held accountable at my full-time Union job but with my full-time business as well.  I quickly moved up and became a Foreman during my time with the Union and my mentality stayed the same.  I was always thinking of how I can benefit the company I worked for and produce better results while keeping their better interest in mind working smarter and as a team with good communication between myself and my guys.  I took account for my actions and would always try to lead by example.

Hard work, perseverance, and a brighter outlook for the future combined with dreams of being successful and always keeping a positive outlook are what helped get me through some of the toughest times.  During the year “2022” I finally decided to leave the Union after 7 years of much hard work, sacrifice, and long hours.  It was time to dedicate myself solely to my business and my employees.  I left the Union on good terms and still to this day keep in touch with many of the contacts I made.
